I don't get the whole wash or not debate, in my experience the best way to sauté mushrooms is to use a water instead of oil.

I use a paper towel and just rub my mushrooms and try to get all of the dirt off and i mean so far my food hasnt tasted dirty you do have to take a MINUTE wiping them to make sure but its nice for like pizza and sandwiches and stuff so theres not near the water

I'm glad to have found your It's Alive series. You have many great ideas, lots of enthusiasm & charm. Thank you. I have to ask though: I've only seen the Fermentation Station a couple of times (need to watch more vids) but, are the different ferments sooooooo close to each other? Doesn't that cause cross contamination and battling between different cultures? It could be an optical illusion, but, I find placing different cultures close together to cause problems. What have you noticed? Love your show!

For the mushroom buttons/cufflinks. I'm sure someone has already said this somewhere down in the comments, but what you could do is freeze dry them. Then use some sort of stabling resin (cactus juice or some other thermosetting brand) to make them more durable. Paint on some conductive paint and electroplate on some brass. (Peter brown did a similar process for lantern plants) I remember Brad mentioning he wanted a freeze drier in an earlier episode. Freeze driers involve vacuum pumps, so other than the resin and the paint you would have most of what you'd need. As far as the brass electroplating goes. I have never personally done it, but I'm sure it exists. Otherwise, copper and nickel electroplating solutions are really easy to make and use. For both you can just use vinegar and salt. For copper you just let it dissolve. Adding a bit of hydrogen peroxide can speed up the process. And for nickel you use the same solution but you need to run electricity across it. Then just look up which needs to be the anode and cathode (I can never remember which is which...) and hook it up.

When my kid was in High School, he decided he wanted to make shoyu. Picked up a 35 pound of soy beans and wheat, plus koji. The first batch was in a five gallon bucket. It was massively successful as a great dipping sauce. He has since made many more variations.

2nd time making these. This batch had two cloves of crushed garlic... you know why... and a few slices of ginger. Came out great! Think I’m gonna try a dried Thai chili pepper next. Thanks for the recipes!! Certainly helped through the days of quarantine. 👍🙏
